The Harvest

In The Harvest, Mikko the work-avoidant trickster Fox is at it again, this time by creative task delegation to thresh the harvest of barley.

While Pekka the Wolf and Osmo the Bear labor to flail and separate chaff from grain, Mikko watches from the cool heights of the barn’s rafters, hard at work “supporting the beams and rafters.” Mikko next convinces the Wolf and Bear to divide up the day’s spoils in his favor, providing him with the cleanest portion of grain.

Jay Van Everen drew this scene with the same straight face the Fox wears throughout his escapades. Earthy, graphic, and quietly triumphant, best displayed somewhere the Fox can keep an eye on things.
