Striking onyx and ivory bring out the nocturnal, slightly dangerous quality of this Finnish folk tale accent pillow, Mirri the Cat, adapted from Jay Van Everen’s 1922 woodblock illustrations. In the tale, Mirri the cat escaped the dinner pot, found employment with a scheming fox, and became the most feared creature in the forest.

In this design, she is mid-coil, perfectly still, perfectly ready to pounce. The onyx and ivory colorway makes the most of this woodblock’s bold, graphic lines.

Each pillow features a patterned front with a coordinating solid reverse for effortless mixing and layering throughout the Mikko Collection.

18" is the ideal size for accent styling; 22" creates a fuller, more substantial look.

Crafted with a linen-texture fabric that offers the relaxed look of natural linen with the durability of modern polyester. Each pillow features a concealed zipper closure and includes a separate shape-retaining insert.

Care: Pillow insert is appropriate for hand wash only. Case is machine-washable on gentle once removed.

Because each pillow is produced on demand, we are unable to accept returns or exchanges for change of mind. If your order arrives damaged or defective, please contact us within 7 days of delivery with a photo of the issue and we will work with you to make it right.

THE FAIRY TALE

Mirri the Cat tells the story of an unemployed feline (who had recently escaped the dinner pot), who is persuaded by Mikko the Fox to become his servant. During their first moments together, Mikko quizzes Mirri on what she would do if attacked by a bear, only to find himself attacked by Osmo the Bear at the same moment.

Mirri quickly scales a tree and watches from a safe distance, while Mikko scolds the Bear for clamping onto his shoulder, mentioning their long friendship and his own loyalty. When Osmo the Bear roars loudly at Mikko’s hypocrisy, jaws wide open, trickster Mikko flees to safety.

Much impressed, Mirri follows her new master home. If you look closely enough at Mirri the Cat, you can see how Jay Van Everen captured her mid-coil, perfectly still and perfectly ready, camouflaged in the forest.
